Rice water: does it promote hair growth

Rice water is the newest buzz going around. I keep seeing it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, the break room. Everyone says it makes the hair softer and promotes hair growth.

I have natural hair as well. However, I consider myself a lazy natural. I just want to crack open my DevaCurl products, cleans and condition my hair, and go. However since I am hearing so much about rice water, I wanted to try it and share my verdict. Let’s check it out to see what all the hub-bub is about.

So yes I’m from Charleston, SC, and don’t know how to cook rice. So rice in a bag is my choice to use today. However, you can use any white rice of your choice. Just drop in the rice to a pot of water, and bring it to a boil.

Once brought to a boil, let it rest for about 30 minutes.

Once the rice is cooled off, remove the rice from the water. Water should be a cloudy white color. After it’s brought to room temperature, fill the spray bottle with the rice water.

Saturate the hair with the rice water. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Shampoo, condition, and style hair as usual. The rice water can also be uses as a rinse or curl refresher. I tried it both as a rinse and as pre treating my hair. I have to say, it did give my hair shine and made it soft.
